The Prime Meridian has a longitude of 0°. The globe is divided into 360° total. The International Dateline is exactly opposite of the Prime Meridian at 180° east (180°) and 180° west (-180°).

Lines of longitude run north and south designating east and west angles from the Prime Meridian.

Lines of longitude are 111.320 km per degree (about 60 nautical miles, 69 statute miles) at the equator and converge to 0 km at the poles.
